I would also politely ask, given the circumstances of the usage of your amp, if they would be willing to offer you an extended warranty to have this repair done.
If there was a known defect that existed when your warranty was in effect, they might be willing to fix it for you. When approaching a company with a request like this, it is important to keep a cool head. Explain the situation clearly, how often you used the amp, and ask them if they can assist you in some way to have your amp repaired under an extended warranty. They deal with issues like this on a case by case basis. It never hurts to try.
